New courts at Recreation Park! |
|
The City of Binghamton will be renovating the tennis courts at Recreation Park this summer in anticipation of the upcoming dBI Tennis Challenger, a $50,000 USTA men’s pro circuit event.
This project was made possible by a grant obtained through the office of Senator Thomas Libous, and we thank Senator Libous for his generous support of our event.
The renovation will include leveling, patching and resurfacing the courts with Plexipave, a surface almost identical to the one used at the US Open. The top coating of the courts will be blue, the same color as was unveiled at the US Open last year. Okie Court Systems of Syracuse, NY, will complete the work.
We also thank the City of Binghamton and Mayor Ryan for taking a proactive role in this project and their enthusiastic support of our tournament. This project will benefit the entire tennis community and make Greater Binghamton an even more attractive option for professional tennis as a “great stop on the way to the Open”.
"We are already a great event, as far as experienced and reputable, but this adds to it. As you see in places like the Australian Open, players notice the difference in the court surface and it makes a difference to them. This will make a difference and again, will make a good event an even more attractive stop towards Flushing Meadows. It also makes an active recreational court even better for the community."
