Had a bunch of good tennis today and unfortunately, we didn't even get to our feature match. Onto highlights.

The Reynolds-Mamiit match was a surprise. Bobby got treatment on his shoulder in the middle of that 2nd set, but it was over before that. Reynolds had a 16 point 3rd game of that 2nd set and that was the last chance to claw back into it, but that 1st serve wasn't there in that game and Mamiit broke. The 1st set had Mamiit race out to a 5-0 lead quickly. Reynolds really had trouble finding anything that worked

Had a couple of very good matches at the same time with Oudsema and Simmonds. Simmonds, coming into the net regularly, did roll an ankle and had it taped... but that wasn't until the 3rd set. In the 2nd set, Guez finally got a break of serve in the 4th game when he forced 2 pretty tough volleys that Simmonds just couldn't get back in play. At that point, it looked like Guez was passing well and it was just a matter of getting into the point on Simmonds serve. How many 2nd serves was he going to get a look at? Sure enough, in that 11th game at 5 all... Simmonds gave him 4 looks at that 2nd serve and Guez broke, even with a relatively easy volley that he missed to get to 0-40.
In the 3rd, it looked like Simmonds spirit was broken and negative. Guez broke in the 3rd game for 2-1, again getting a 2nd serve that he put into Simmonds feet (as S approached). Simmonds then rolls the ankle, but it sure looked like the tape job improved the focus because the ground strokes had some extra and Simmonds broke back on a ripping forehand winner to get to 4 all. 2 more breaks and it goes to the tie break. The 3rd set breaker had a moment where Guez questioned an correction by a line judge, but really Simmonds came up with the goods. A bunch of volley winners in that breaker for a good win.

Defending Champ, recall has a big serve and forehand. Rosol, who looked a bit like Lendl, was quick. Oudsema cruised thru the 1st as Rosol, possibly didn't know the weapons and had to learn a bit. Rosol got the early break in the 2nd, but it wasn't enough alone and it went to a breaker. Oudsema didn't seem to have the great mindset going into that breaker. It was a couple of errors from Oudsema that forced the 3rd set. Oudsema got the break in the 7th game of that 3rd set on 2 big forehand winners.

Bogomolov had a big win, although he hasn't been playing bad lately so he wasn't that much of an underdog. He got an early break and was putting a lot of pressure on Brzezicki's serve. Brzezicki did return the favor, but in the tiebreak it was 3 errors on his racquet that gave up the set. Brzezicki broke early in almost the opposite of the 1st set, but Brzezicki just didn't have enough weapon on the day and Bogomolov raced back for 2 breaks and 6 of the last 7 games. Some good long ralleys.

The rain came almost right on time. Started in the last few games of the Br-Bo match. As a result, we have Johansson up at 11am. Nothing to be done about that... happens at Wimbledon and it happens here; rain disrupts the sports' schedule. The winner actually plays again at 5pm. Interesting twist on the possible outcomes of the day.

$2 to see a Grand Slam champion play once is ridiculous... if it works out to be able to see him play twice, there are no words to describe that.
